Customs clearance for North America

Our goal is to make all logistics processes run smoothly for our customers. The import and export of goods is subject to a complex set of customs regulations, also in North America. In addition, each country has its own rules and regulations which have to be considered. In order to avoid delays in transport or customs penalties an extensive knowledge of customs processes is required.

Customs tariff classification

In order for goods to successfully cross international borders, they must be classified according to the Harmonized System Code (HS code). This code also determines the duty and tax which has to be paid on the goods. Importers and exporters are responsible for the classification of the goods, but they can assign a forwarder or customs agent to classify the goods on their behalf.

EgeTrans has the know-how to support you in classifying your goods. We are glad to help you.

Supporting the customs process

Throughout the entire customs process we are in close contact with the authorities involved. As a matter of course, we take over all communication with the process participants on both sides of the border for you, transmit documents in time, answer questions and accompany the process until goods are released by customs.

Our EgeTrans customs experts are always up to date for you and support you at every single step.

Remote Location Filing

We are authorized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to transmit customs declarations in the electronic data interchange system Remote Location Filing (RLF) from a location other than the port of arrival.
This means that we can file electronic customs declarations for you at all U.S. ports and you that you only need us as your sole customs broker for all your U.S. imports.

Importer Security Filing

U.S. importers who import their goods by sea must observe the Importer Security Filing (ISF, 10+2). The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulation requires importers to submit ten data elements, and shipping companies to submit two, before goods can be imported into the United States.

CBP uses the data for a risk evaluation of the cargo and to decide whether the goods can be imported. Companies are required to submit the data to CBP at least 24 hours prior to shipment.

EgeTrans takes care of the timely electronic transmission of the data to all relevant parties on your behalf.

Customs bonds

A company importing goods into the U.S. must file a customs bond with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The bond protects the U.S. government in the event that the importer fails to meet its obligation to pay amounts due (e.g. duties).

Customs bonds allow for faster customs clearance because they guarantee CBP will be immediately paid if additional import duties or taxes need to be collected. This accelerates customs clearance of the shipment.

We are glad to assist you in selecting and underwriting a suitable bond through our insurance partner.

Automated Export System (AES)

For most U.S. exports, companies must submit their export data. The export data is called electronic export information (EEI) and is included in U.S. economic statistics.

We are glad to handle this filing for you. Contact us.

Import / Export Customs Services to Mexico

Due to the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the EU, goods can be imported into Mexico duty-free or on preferential terms. We are glad to issue the EUR.1 movement certificate for your shipment and check at the same time if Free Trade Agreements apply.

After determining the port of entry, we check whether the importer already has a customs agent whose license can be used for the selected port. If a license is not valid for the specified port, we assist in registering a new license on the importer's side.

We have been working for many years with a network of professional customs agencies which all provide high quality work. Our staff in Santiago de Quéretaro is very familiar with the complex Mexican import and export regulations and is glad to answer your questions.
