The U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has announced an increase in user fees, effective October 1, 2024, including the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF).
- Minimum MPF on informal entries (shipments valued under $2,500) will increase from $2.53 to $2.62.
- Minimum MPF on formal entries (shipments valued over $2,500) will increase from $31.67 to $32.71.
- Maximum MPF on a formal entry will increase from $614.35 to $634.62.
The fee increases are mandated by the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, passed in 2015, which requires CBP to adjust fees in accordance with inflation and other economic factors. This act ensures that user fees remain current and adequate to cover the costs of services provided by CBP.
